CHENNAI / October 2023:  Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, ranked among the top 10 universities in India in the NIRF 2023, conferred degrees upon a total of 176 students during its 2023 convocation ceremony at their Chennai Campus. Among these graduates, 32 were female and 144 were male. The majority of students, 104 in number, were from the B.Tech., Computer Science & Engineering stream, followed by B.Tech., Electronics and Communication, Mechanical and Electrical & Electronics programs.

The convocation ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including the Chief Guest Professor B. S. Murthy Director, IIT Hyderabad; along with Guest of Honour Dr. Hanumanth Rao, Director General, SAMEER (R&D of MeitY, Govt. of India)

During his address, Chief Guest Professor B. S. Murthy Director, IIT Hyderabad, said, “When I was your age, fresh out of RAC Nagpur, back when it wasn’t called an NIT, I made a conscious choice. I chose the path of teaching and research over campus placements. It was clear in my mind that I wanted to become a teacher, a researcher. I asked my mentor, ‘How can I become a great teacher like you?’ It was the influence of exceptional educators like you may have encountered here that shaped my journey. It’s because of them that I stand before you today, having dedicated three decades to teaching. Clarity in your goals is crucial. It’s like playing football without a goal post. You must know where you’re aiming. Identifying your ‘goal post’ early on will guide you in the right direction. When I chose to be a teacher, I asked myself: What knowledge do I need? Where can I acquire it? This clarity set me on my path. Let this be your lesson: Know your goal, seek the knowledge, and let clarity light your way.”

Guest of Honour, Dr. Hanumantha Rao, Director General, SAMEER (R&D of MeitY, Govt. of India), said, “Heartiest congratulations to the first graduating class of Chennai campus. You are the pioneers, the first alumni of this esteemed institution, etching your names into its history. You grew alongside this campus, witnessing its every milestone, its every building rise. You are an indelible mark in the chronicles of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Chennai. Embrace this newfound freedom from conditions. You’ve earned your degree, but this is just the beginning. You are the architects of your own destiny, tasked with contributing to our nation. In the last 70 years, India has risen from the ashes of independence to become a global powerhouse. The world watches, not just at Silicon Valley or MIT, but at you, the talent nurtured here. In the grand scheme of life, one invaluable piece of advice resonates — uphold your values. Let the DNA of Amrita University, woven with integrity and respect, guide your path.”

During a virtual address, Mata Amritanandanmayi Devi, Chancellor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, said, “Remember the story of the lazy youth turned successful model. Patience and discernment transformed a liability into an asset. Experience is the true guru. Use knowledge gained from experience alongside theoretical knowledge. As you step into the job market, let patience and sraddha guide you. Life presents various situations. When choice is yours, don’t simply defer to fate. Exercise discrimination and take action. But when choice is absent, accept it as divine will. To bear fruit, actions require the right time, self-effort, and God’s grace. Seek the source of the power driving intellect—it resides within. The truth of existence is undeniable. Good deeds attract grace, making our actions complete and meaningful.”

Poojya Swami Ramakrishnananda Puri, Member, Board of Management, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, said, As you stand here today, it’s important to reflect on the journey you’ve traversed. You’ve encountered countless obstacles, faced hardships, and navigated through unknown corners. Yet, in spite of it all, you’ve achieved remarkable success. Your dedication and hard work are the cornerstones, undeniable and commendable. But let’s also acknowledge the unsung heroes who contributed to your journey. External factors can influence outcomes, even when you’ve given your best. So, as you embark on this new chapter, remember that while hard work is crucial, there are countless variables beyond your control. Embrace uncertainty, for it is woven into the fabric of life’s journey. Congratulations, graduates, and may you face each new challenge with resilience and grace.”
