CHENNAI | January 28, 2026: Former Union Minister of State for External Affairs and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi on Wednesday attended the release of “Fragile Frontiers – A Reflection on Innovation, Power Politics, and the Evolving Frontiers of Space”, a book authored by Dr. Srimathy Kesan, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Space Kidz India, at a function held in Chennai.
The book launch brought together a distinguished gathering of diplomats, defence experts, scientists, academicians, and stakeholders from India’s growing space ecosystem, underscoring the increasing global interest in space diplomacy, innovation, and strategic collaboration.
Among the prominent dignitaries present were Dr. Neeraj A. Sharma, Consul General of the Republic of Palau; Dr. Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka; Hugues Boiteau, Scientific and Academic Attaché of France in India; Dr. Prakasha Rao PJVKS, Resident Expert at IN-SPACe; and Maj. Gen. M. Indrabalan (Retd.), Honorary Consul of Myanmar in India.
The book delves into the evolving dynamics of space exploration, examining how innovation, geopolitics, and power structures are redefining the future of space and its role in global strategic frameworks. It also highlights India’s expanding footprint in space technology and its growing relevance in international affairs.
Addressing the gathering, Meenakshi Lekhi spoke at length on the theme of women’s empowerment, particularly in nation-building sectors such as defence and space. She observed that men and women share the same dreams and aspirations, and recalled meeting several women serving in the defence forces who aspire to reach senior leadership ranks, including that of Major General.
“Life has its own methodology, but one should never lose pride in who they are,” Lekhi said, adding that pride must stem from one’s identity, values, and inner strength rather than external validation.
Emphasising the deeper meaning of empowerment, she noted that true empowerment is not defined by appearance, visibility, or attire, but by intellectual strength and capability. “The strength of the mind cannot be replicated,” she remarked, urging society to recognise and respect women for their competence, resilience, and contributions across sectors.
The event also highlighted the increasing participation of women in the space sector. Speakers lauded Space Kidz India’s initiatives, including the All-Women Satellite Mission(ShakthiSAT), calling it a significant milestone in encouraging young girls and women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and space research.
The book release served as a platform for meaningful discussions on India’s role in shaping the future of space exploration while reinforcing the importance of inclusive growth and gender equality in high-technology domains.
While addressing the media , Meenakshi Lekhi expressed condolences over the reported demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, stating that she was deeply saddened by the news and extended her sympathies to the bereaved family, It is a very sad incident, and I can only pray for the family, because those who are left behind will continue to remember him and carry forward the work he undertook for the public good.
