Chinnaponnu is born in a small village called suranam and started her professional career at the age of 13 when she started singing for churches and temples. She caught her first break in 2004 when she sang as a playback singer with the song “Vazhthuren Vazhthuren” from the hit movie “Chandramukhi”. In the year 2010, she won the Edition Award 2010 for the song “Theeka Theeka” and was also one of the artists featured in the theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010, composed by A. R. Rahman. Her major hit was “Nakku Mukka” from the2008 film Kadhalil Vizhunthen and was honoured with Kannadasan Award for best folk singer in a Tamil film.
