IRU Board Member Dr. Nandini Azad Honored with the “Universal Icon Achiever Award 2024”
The International Raiffeisen Union, the oldest Cooperative Union in the world of which Dr. Nandini Azad, is Global Board Member (leading the Working Women’s Forum,(WWF) Indian Cooperative Network for Women (ICNW) Chennai, HQ. Announced on its website Dr. Azads award “Universal ICON Achiever Award 2024”; awarded by Indian Solidarity Council, New Delhi, in Vietnam on 30th August, 2024.
To quote “We are proud to announce that Dr. Nandini Azad, an esteemed member of the IRU Board, was awarded the “Universal Icon Achiever Award 2024” on August 30th, 2024.
The award ceremony took place at the Dai Nam Sai Gon Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and was organized by the Indian Solidarity Council, New Delhi.
Dr. Azad was recognized for her outstanding contributions to social work, specifically in empowering and uplifting economically disadvantaged women. Leading the Working Women’s Forum (India) (WWF-I) and the Indian Cooperative Network for Women (ICNW), HQ in Chennai, a vast network of over 615,000 women members across four states in South India.
The WWF-I and ICNW are globally recognized as best practices, embodying the “Gender & Equity Model” that challenges and counters the oppressive pillars of caste, class, and gender discrimination.

The IRU board held its global board meeting on 4th September, 2024 to decide activities for the year of Cooperatives (2024-2025) with importance contributions worldwide.
